| Join the fun with others to create awareness and raise funds for NCAC through events such as the Walk to D'feet ALS; be creative and help plan and organize one of your own ideas! Or, do you have special skills in grant writing? | |
| Speakers Bureau/ Health Fairs | |
| Represent The ALS Association at an event or health fair. (Those interested in doing this would be provided with training.) | |
| Media Relations | |
| Help write PSA's, press releases or help facilitate relationships with the press/TV/radio. | |
| Patient Services | |
| The ALS Association offers the following volunteer opportunities to provide support and assistance to PALS (persons with ALS): | |
| * | Phone PALS: Call PALS and their caregivers on a routine basis, to check-in, offer support and report any needs or concerns to the chapter Patient Services Coordinator for follow-up. |
| * | Home Companion: Visit a PALS regularly to provide companionship to PALS and give caregivers some time off (talking, reading, writing letters, organizing files, completing applications, running errands). No direct hands-on patient care is expected (i.e., lifting, toileting). |
| * | PALS Assistant at
Events: Provide assistance and support to PALS attending a chapter event (i.e., escort them to the appropriate location at an event, assure they receive distributed information, keep them company if their caregiver is not present). |
| * | Assistive
Technology/Augmentative Communication: Help set-up augmentative communication systems and teach PALS who have lost the ability to speak how to use communication equipment. (Computer skills and experience are required for this position.) |
| * | Equipment Delivery: Transport medical and assistive technology equipment from storage to PALS. |
