Studies on Riluzole

(Rilutek)

An Irish study of 360 patients from 1995-2000 showed that patients taking riluzole survived on average 12 months longer than untreated patients.  Enhanced survival was most notable for patients who started riluzole early in the course of their disease.

In a yet to be published University of Wisconsin study, survival is significantly improved for those patients taking riluzole.  Interesting data appears on those over 45, rapidly progressing and those with bulbar, arm, and leg onset.  Further information on this study can be found at http://www.ncrc.wisc.edu/als/research/riluzolesurvival2002/main.html
