Benefits Check-Up

The National Council on the Aging (NCOA) and American Online Inc. have launched a new online service that identifies all federal and state assistance programs available to older Americans.

The program, called Benefits-Check-Up, is a free public service that will help individuals quickly and easily determine what benefits they qualify for and how to get them.

More than 5 million older Americans are currently missing out on benefits programs that can provide help with health care, transportation, income support, legal services, housing and energy assistance, meals and other important services, say NCOA President James Firman.  NCOA is a nonprofit advocacy group for older Americans based in Washington.

Individuals can assess the new service through the following Web address: www.benefitscheckup.org
