There are currently two studies being conducted by the Air Force that have an ALS connection. The first is a Mortality Study that is looking at the cause of death of civil service workers at Kelly Air Force Base between 1981-2000. ALS is one of the diseases that is of special interest to the researchers. The results of this study should be available by the end of summer 2002. The second study is an ALS Case Series investigation. 140 individuals who lived or worked at Kelly Air Force Base and have been diagnosed with ALS are part of an Air Force study. Questionnaires designed by the Air Force are being distributed and completed by the participating families. This study is taking extra time, as the information requested has not been easy for some families to ascertain.
